Macchina molto compatta e robusta, costituita principalmente da due unità operatrici oleopneumatiche, adatte all' alesatura (o ripassatura) del foro scatola di movimento, alla creazione ( o ripassatura) del filetto e alla spianatura della scatola stessa perfettamente in asse con il filetto (operazione molto importante per consentire un buon montaggio del gruppo movimento). La macchina è dotata di un carrello speciale porta telaio, con dispositivo di centraggio dello stesso, rendendolo universale per tutti i telai. Questo carrello viene comandato oleopneumaticamente con possibilità di spinta diversificate per le tre lavorazioni: alesatura-filettatura -sfacciatura.
Le unità di lavoro sono comandate ognuna da un motore a doppia velocità per consentire la lavorazione delle scatole di movimento sia in ferro ( FE 30-40) che in microfusione ( C 40 ). In ambedue le lavorazioni (filettatura-sfacciatura) la velocità di ritorno è sempre rapida.
Particolare veramente unico nel suo genere, che rende la ML 178/DT completamente versatile, è il portautensile ad innesto rapido, il quale inserito nella testa operatrice con aggancio e sgancio rapido consente di passare da un tipo di filetto (es.: BSA) ad un altro (es.: 36x24) in poco meno di 5 secondi, senza dover regolare la macchina.

Highly compact and heavy duty machine, made up of two main oleopneumatic groups suitable for reaming (or repassing) the BB shell hole, for tapping (or repassing) the thread and subsequently for facing the shell, so as to ensure that the threads are precisely in axis vis-à-vis the BB shell (an essential operation for facilitating correct and accurate assembly of the crank set). The machine incorporates a frame lodgement carriage, as also a frame centreing device, which makes the unit universal and therefore, compatible with all frame models. The carriage itself is controlled oleopneumatically and offers the possibility of working with different pressures for the three operations of: reaming, tapping and facing. The heads are controlled each one by a dual-speed motor, to facilitate processing of both standard steel ( FE 30-40) as well as investment cast ( C 40 ) BB shells. The withdrawl speed is equally fast in both cases (tapping facing). A special device, that gives to the ML 178/DT a full versatility, is the rapid clutch tool-holder. Its replacement in the main head, through the rapid clutch, allows to pass from a kind of thread (for instance BSA) to another (for instance 36x24) in less that 5 seconds, without making adjustments on the machine.
